7/24/08-7/25/08 Eastern Music Festival's Young Artists Orchestras Concerts
The Eastern Music Festival's Young Artists Orchestras will present two programs of orchestral classics and audience favorites on Thursday, July 24th and Friday, July 25th! Both performances begin at 8PM in the Dana Auditorium of Guilford College (5800 West Friendly Ave.) in Greensboro and will be conducted by José Luis Novo. Friday's concert will be preceded by a free lecture, Musically Speaking, at 7PM in the Moon Room of the Dana Auditorium. 7/25/08-7/26/08 Davie County Relay For Life
The 2008 Davie County Relay for Life will take place from Friday, July 25th to Saturday, July 26th. This overnight event will take place at the YMCA track in Mocksville and will feature country music star & cancer survivor Kevin Sharp! 7/26/08 Motorcycle Ride for The United Way
A Motorcycle Ride to benefit the United Way will take place on Saturday, July 26th! Registration will begin at Curly's Harley Davidson (Linville Rd. exit off Business 40) at 11AM. Ride will end at Ted's Famous Chicken at 3:30PM. Cost is $15 for singles and $20 for doubles. In addition, the first 100 registrants will get a t-shirt. 7/26/2008 Violinist Elmar Oliveira
Renowned violinist Elmar Oliveira will perform with the Eastern Music Festival Orchestra on Saturday, July 26th. Guest conductor Jorge Mester will lead a performance of works by Bernstein, Tchaikovsky and Mussorgsky/Ravel. The performance begins at 8PM in the Dana Auditorium of Guilford College (5800 West Friendly Ave.) in Greensboro. 7/26/08 KACG "Christmas in July" Craft Show and baked goods Sale
The Kernersville Arts & Crafts Guild is sponsoring "Christmas in July" Craft Show and baked goods on Saturday, July 26th. The event will take place at the Kernersville Senior Enrichment Center (basement of Kernersville Public Library - 130 E. Mountain St.) from 9AM-3PM. Enjoy local artisans and crafter's promoting handmade items including paintings, pottery, girls boutique items, sewn items, primitive, baskets, soaps, jewelry, purses, woodworking, handmade children's toys, etc. in a Christmas setting. 7/26/08 Memorial Walk to Remember Children
The 2nd Annual Memorial Walk to Remember Children will take place at Miller Park (Queen and Knollwood Streets) in Winston-Salem on Saturday, July 26th at 9AM. This free two-mile Memorial Walk will memorialize all children who have died too soon and  help bereaved families in their journey through grief. 7/26/2008 Rabies Vaccination Clinic
A rabies vaccination clinic will be held on Saturday, July 26th at the Summerfield Fire Department (7400 Summerfield Rd.). The cost of the rabies vaccination is $5 per shot. The clinic will be held from 9AM-1PM. For more information, call the Guilford County Animal Shelter at (336)297-5020.
7/26/08 ROCKIN’ MOUNT AIRY GALA & AUCTION
The Rockin' Mount Aity Gala & Auction will take place on Saturday, July 26th at the Mt. Aity Regional Musem of Histery Annex Building. The event will take place from 6PM-9PM and will feature delicious foods, a wine tasting and rockin’ beach music by “Casino Cruze”. The Harley Davidson Live To Ride will take place on Saturday, August 2nd! The ride will begin at Harley Davidson of Greensboro Motorpark (538 Farragut St.). 8/4/08-8/8/08 Food Drive-By to benefit Greensboro Urban Ministry
First Presbyterian Church in Greensboro will sponsor a Food Drive-By to benefit Greensboro Urban Ministry! The Drive-By will take place from Monday, August 4th through Friday, August 8th. A tent will be set up in the church’s Elm St. parking lot (near Fisher Ave.) from 7:30AM-9:30AM and 5PM-6:30PM where volunteers will be accepting donations to serve the more than 2,000 people a month who turn to the ministry’s food pantry for help. Proteins (meats, tuna, peanut butter, & beans) are especially needed. For information, call (336)478-4737 or visit www.fpcgreensboro.org.
8/5/08 Quen Taylor Blood and Bone Marrow Drive
The Annual Quen Taylor Blood & Marrow (Typing) Drive will take place on Tuesday, August 5th at the First Baptist Church (401 Oakhurst St.) in Kernersville. The drive will take place from 8:30AM-7PM. Quen Taylor was the voice of Wake Forest Basketball, a dear friend to Clear Channel and part time DJ for 104.1 WTQR. He lost his Battle with Leukemia in 2001. Before his death, he was committed to ensuring that people give blood because he truly knew the value of each donation. We  continue his efforts through this blood drive. 8/10/08 3rd Annual Walk for Wishes at Ernie Shore Field
The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Central and Western North Carolina will hold its 3rd Annual Walk for Wishes on Sunday, August 10th following the 5PM Winston-Salem Warthogs game at Ernie Shore Field. Proceeds raised at this event will grant the wishes of local children with life-threatening medical conditions. The Walk for Wishes is a non-competitive family event which will have food, entertainment, and prizes as well as special recognition of our local wish children. 8/12/2008 17th Annual Tee Off Against Hunger

The 17th Annual Tee Off Against Hunger Golf Tournament to benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina will take place on Tuesday, August 12th at Tanglewood Park in Clemmons! The morning round shotgun start will begin at 7:30AM and the afternoon round shotgun start will begin at 1:30PM. Cost is $100 for an individual and $400 for a team of four. 8/16/08 CC Dance Company Benefit Golf Tournament
The Competition dance team from CC Dance in Madison has been accepted to perform at Disney World in August 2009. The dancers will perform in Florida and will also get the opportunity to take a workshop taught by Disney. They are sponsoring a Benefit Golf Tournament to help cover expenses on Saturday, August 16th at the Ponderosa Golf Club in Stoneville. The format is a four person team, Captain's choice event. Shot gun start at 9AM. Entry fee is $200 per team or $50 per individual and includes green fees, golf cart, lunch and goody bag. $500 cash award will go to the first place. 8/19/2008 20th Annual Hospice Taste of the Town
The 20th Annual Hospice Taste of the Town will take place on Tuesday, August 19th at Showplace in Downtown High Point. The event will take place from 5:30PM-8:30PM and will feature cuisine from over 50 area restaurants and caterers. In addition, enjoy music from Soul Biscuit and Timeless and a chance to win a $500 shopping spree at Belk and Oak Hollow Mall. Entry tickets are $5 each and “taste” tickets are $1 each. Admission is free for children under 6. Advance tickets can be purchased at select branches of NewBridge Bank, Hospice of the Piedmont’s office (1801 Westchester Dr.) in High Point, or online at www.hospicetaste.com by downloading and sending in a ticket order form. Tickets will also be available at Showplace on the day of the event, beginning at 5:30PM. All proceeds will be used to help patients who would otherwise be unable to afford end of life care. 8/26/2008 Gang Awareness Educational Forum
The Greensboro Police Department will hold a Gang Awareness Educational Forum on Tuesday, August 26th at the Council Chamber of the Melvin Municipal Office Building (300 W. Washington St.) in Greensboro. The event will take place from 6:30PM-8:30PM. The purpose of the presentation is to inform parents, caregivers, and those who work with children & teenagers how to identify the warning signs of gang involvement and how to determine the best course of action to take when faced with this issue.

Win Tickets to Bristol Race and Help GSD Research
A raffle to benefit The Children’s Fund for Glycogen Storage Disease Research is currently underway! 500 tickets will be sold and each ticket costs $20. Grand Prize includes: Tickets for two to the Sprint Cup Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway Saturday, August 23rd, VIP tickets for the Cingular Wireless Suite & Hospitality Tent (food and beverage included), and tickets for a Pit tour. Prize is valued at $1500. All Proceeds go directly to research for Glycogen Storage Disease. 5 yr old, Rylee, was born with GSD1a, a rare liver disease. She was fortunate to have survived beyond her first few months of life. Rylee’s liver cannot process glycogen into glucose, which is essential for life. Rylee requires 24-hour a day special treatment. She’s constantly monitored for hypoglycemia, which causes brain seizures, comas and can be fatal. Complications including liver & kidney tumors increase with age. A simple cold or flu can spiral into a life-threatening situation if not treated properly. Jamestown Public Library Summer Drama Workshops
The Jamestown Public Library is sponsoring Summer Drama Workshops! Dale and Sue Metz will offer five sessions of drama workshops for teens at the library beginning on Tuesday, July 1st. These workshops are open to rising 8th through 12th graders and will meet on Tuesday evenings from 7PM-8:30PM. Sichuan Earthquake Relief and Rebuild Fund
Agape Way, a small relief organization founded by Greensboro residents, Frank and Anna Li, is seeking assistance to raise $500,000 for earthquake victims in China. The earthquake in Sichuan, China, has taken over 50,000 lives and left 5 million people homeless. With staff on the ground in China, Agape Way is positioned to provide direct relief and assistance to some of those hardest hit by the devastation. Agape Way is recommended by Global China Center to those interested in making a donation to help the earthquake victims. The Victory Junction Gang Camp is currently hiring for paid positions available from Mid-May to Mid-August. In addition, weekly volunteer opportunities are available. Downtown Winston Salem Summer Music Series
The Downtown Winston Salem Summer Music Series, featuring Alive After Five, Downtown Jazz, and Summer on Trade gives Winston Salem residents an outlet to enjoy great live music throughout the summer. Alive After Five will take place on featured Thursday afternoons until September 18th at Corpening Plaza. Downtown Jazz will take place on featured Friday afternoons through August 8th at Corpening Plaza. Summer on Trade will take place every Saturday night through August 16th at Sixth & Trade Streets. "The Baseball Bike" Raffle
Harley-Davidson of Greensboro/High Point has teamed up with the Greensboro Grasshoppers in an effort to raise funds for Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Central Piedmont. A Harley-Davidson VROD motorcycle has been donated to the charity by Harley-Davidson of Greensboro/High Point and volunteers will be selling raffle tickets during all Grasshopper home games throughout the 2008 season. In addition, tickets can be purchased at Harley Davidson Greensboro, Harley Davidson High Point, Wolf Creek Harley-Davidson in Reidsville and online at www.bbbscp.com. The bike,  nicknamed “The Baseball Bike”, will be on display at NewBridge Bank Park throughout the season either in the Hoppers Yard on non-game days or on the concourse during Grasshopper games. Raffle tickets are $5 each or five for $20. The drawing for the winner will be held on Thursday, August 7th during "Bike Night" at the Hoppers game against the Augusta GreenJackets.
Cruise In '08
Cruise In '08, presented by Foreign Cars Italia will take place in the main parking lot of the Greensboro Coliseum beginning Wednesday, May 14th! The event will take place on the second Wednesday of each month through August 13th. All vehicles are welcome for this fun show & tell event with no judging. In addition, enjoy a burnout contest. The event will last from 7PM-10PM and admission is only $5 per person.

DVDs4Vets is a Non-Profit Charity that arranges for the collection and donation of new and used DVDs for the benefit of military Veterans, many of whom are unable to obtain these on their own.
